Plant life found in the Colorado landscape and in my own garden are constant sources of inspiration in my artwork and life. The beauty of the colors, forms and textures that I see spring forth is translated first to a drawing, and then to printing plates made of wood, linoleum, collagraphs or monoprints. I gradually build up compositions by printing these plates in multiple layers of transparent colors that overlap and intertwine with each other. To achieve slight variations, I often reprint and rework the image by changing the colors, changing the order that the colors are printed and often, the plates are re-cut or interchanged with each other. Through this process, I enjoy searching for just the right balance in the piece and the surprise of where it will lead me. Hopefully that is to a little world that I’ve created where one can get lost and inspired to see what other wonders nature has to offer.
