Medium: Painting, Acrylic

I use a lot of paint, pushing and pulling to form heavy texture and diffuse lines. I mostly use acrylic paint on stretched canvas and wood panels, applied with a palette knife, brush, large scrapers, water, and rags.  I don’t always have a specific subject in mind, and it tends to emerge organically over time as I work through the process of layering, and scraping back, and re-applying. It’s a lot like spilling my heart onto the canvas, then refining the composition as the forms begin to emerge…

When I reach this balance between form and feeling, I, and the viewer, experience a vibration that is palpable and moving.  To do this, I believe I must show up and do the work, not thinking, but incorporating many intervals of stepping back and sitting with the work in progress. There is definitely a dance that occurs, and I feel honored to be a part of it, sometimes leading, often following.
