All of my ‘paintings’ are made almost completely with decorative paper. I use very little paint. If needed, I may add details or a dry brush effect for highlights with acrylic paint.
I tear or cut a whole variety of papers into different size pieces and glue them to the paper. The decorative papers are from all over the world. Sometimes I start a piece with a rough sketch or wash and then work from there layering and layering the various papers to join together and in so doing create the tapestries of color and form.
I work as well in papier mache, animal masks and flying birds in the last few years. They also are covered in decorative paper. I begin with a mold of clay or just squished up paper and after many, many layers of mache, until the form is as hard as wood, I then cover or adorn them, their ‘fur’ and ‘feathers’, with decorative papers.
