Laura Brenton
My work begins in not knowing - an open space where intuition, movement, and exploration guide the process. Sometimes it’s a feeling or a glimpse, almost like a dream, as images begin to unfold. I’m drawn to non-representational work because it leaves room for the viewer to follow their own path of discovery.
Using brushes, squeegees, my hands, and unconventional tools, I create non-representational paintings that emerge through gesture and color. Influenced by my background in dance, movement is central to my practice. I have collaborated with musicians and dancers, improvising and creating together.
I’m drawn to bold color, expressive line, and the discovery of beauty in unexpected places. It’s the creative process itself - the act of exploration and connection - that I want to share with others.
My work has been featured in Denver Life Magazine, Boulder Lifestyle Magazine, Canvas Rebel, Boulder Travel, and the book Creative Sanity. I’ve exhibited internationally and throughout Colorado.
