Laura Brenton
My work begins in an open space where intuition, movement, and exploration guide the process. A painting often starts with a feeling or fleeting glimpse - something sensed rather than planned - and unfolds gradually over time. I’m drawn to non-representational work because it is a process of discovery for me and leaves room for the viewer to follow their own path.
Using brushes, squeegees, my hands, and unconventional tools, I create abstract paintings that develop through gesture and color. Influenced by my background in dance, movement is central to my practice and informs how I approach each painting. I have collaborated with musicians and dancers, improvising and creating together.
I am drawn to bold color, expressive line, and the discovery of beauty in unexpected places. The creative process itself - the act of exploration, attention, and connection—is what I want to share with others.
My work has been featured in Denver Life Magazine, Boulder Lifestyle Magazine, Canvas Rebel, Boulder Travel, and the book Creative Sanity. I’ve exhibited internationally and throughout Colorado.
