A dialogue takes place between myself and the subject I am painting. Be it painting Plein Aire, in the studio, drawing from past events and experiences, or pulling images from dreams, it all starts with a translation. What comes off the end of the paintbrush can be challenging and unsettling, but dialogues and dreams can be like that.
How does one translate into paint what is seen and experienced?
The struggle is in the notoriously difficult task of simply opening up, looking, and simply getting out of the way.
