Doug Pisik
I am a wood artist who’s art encompasses a range of works, including wood sculptures, 3D wall art, the occasional artistic furniture piece, and elaborate art boxes that are meticulously crafted to showcase geometric precision.
My sculptures and furniture utilize carving techniques that focus on the flow of the wood to create forms that have natural curves and satin-smooth finishes that invite the observer to touch and appreciate the medium.
I pride myself on utilizing a diverse palette of woods, often incorporating over a dozen species into a single work, resulting in compositions that are sometimes composed of over a thousand meticulously joined pieces. By typically avoiding dyes and stains, I preserve the integrity of each wood’s natural colors and tones, allowing the inherent beauty of the material to shine through. When I do use color, it’s to provide accent and contrast.
