Greg Matheny

A mentor once said, “Art is in the artist”. After eons of immersion in writing, photography, drawing and painting, I agree — it is clear and inescapable. It is another way of referring to the muse. I have always found creativity to be the antidote for the churn of life. There is a Zen state inherent in the making of art.

Currently, watercolor painting is my mode. Works often derive from my photographs, yet sometimes a picture emerges from a spurious brush stroke. I am an interpreter of moments, without much of a thematic engine. I’m ad hoc - unyoked beyond a yen for surrealism at times.
