I am drawn to the ordinary things in life - not the postcard view or the gorgeous flowers but the hand-me-down, rusty items on the workbench or the forgotten vintage car at the junkyard. Someone once told me that the beauty in my paintings isn’t in WHAT I paint but in how I paint them.
I strive to create paintings that look almost photo-realistic from 30 feet away and that give the illusion you could walk in and pluck the objects right out of the painting. But then, as you get closer and closer, the painting breaks up into juicy brushstrokes, interesting shapes, and textures. I want you to be reminded that you’re looking at an object that was made by hand and I hope you experience some of the joy I experienced applying the paint and choosing the colors.
My goal is to help others see the beauty that surrounds us. Just as a life is made by stringing together those special small moments that aren’t huge but are still meaningful, those are the things I choose to paint.
