Since 1999, painting has been Ryan’s primary focus, but his practice has evolved more recently to include mixed-media sculptures that marry finely finished wood with vibrant, transparent glass and acrylic. These sculptural pieces extend the language of his paintings into three-dimensional space, balancing form with color, opacity with translucency. This return to working with glass has been an exciting full-circle moment, bringing back the sense of wonder he first discovered creating with it almost 20 years ago.
Inspired by nature’s effortless compositions—rippling water, layered landscapes, shifting light—Ryan’s work captures a sense of joy, curiosity, and fluidity. His paintings and sculptures have been featured on chocolate bar packaging and acquired by collectors across the country and internationally. Through his art, he invites viewers to experience a world where color floats, forms breathe, and playfulness meets precision.
