I believe in painting what I know and love, and there’s nothing more satisfying to me than creating the memory of my time in the mountains. I am always looking for that special shape of tree that relates to its surroundings. It is not just the visual memory, but it is also a physical memory that I bring back to my Studio . It is mostly the emotional energy that I feel about my subject and not a determination to get everything exact that excites me about painting. I enjoy playing with color and values and allow myself to just go by instinct when selecting a pallet for any given painting. I experimented for many years with how to add texture to my canvas, and I have developed a recognizable style. I hunt the shapes as the paint begins to dry and then break many rules of painting to reach my final stroke.
