Lili Francklyn
I began my career as an artist doing figure drawings. My intent was to have some artistic freedom and escape from the commercial pressures of being a web designer. After a longish time doing black and white figure drawings, I began experimenting with do-it-yourself pastel, and eventually yearned to branch out beyond flesh tones and human figures. That’s when I began painting with acrylics. After a few years of that, I fell in love with the unctuousness of oil paints. I still paint with both acrylic and oil, focusing mostly on landscapes, figures, and more demanding urban scenes when I dare. A few years ago, I fell in love again with the shimmering quality of soft pastels and the spontaneous energy of their marks on rough paper, especially when applied by my experienced teachers. I’m still a beginner with all of it; the joy is in the learning.
