Painting the places (and pets) you love! I paint landscapes, street scenes, birds, trout, and pet portraits. I typically use a palette knife because I like the chunkier style, the forced looseness, and the minimal rinsing water required. My work is colorful, textured, and impressionistic.
I retired from my high-tech career as a User Experience Researcher, and now painting is my main gig. I was more of a sporty kid than an artsy kid, and it’s only in the past 5 years that I’ve considered myself an artist. I didn’t study art in college, in fact I majored in geology. But I’ve taken art classes from many teachers as an adult. Always learning. I used to work as an Outward Bound Instructor, and my love of nature and wilderness has inspired my art.
Painting feels meditative, but it also takes courage. What motivates me? I’d have to say curiosity. What will my painting look like? I have to paint it to find out!
