I paint landscapes, street scenes, birds, trout, pet portraits, and I am working on an NCAR series. I typically use a palette knife because I like the chunkier style, the forced looseness, and the minimal rinsing water required. My work is colorful, textured, and impressionistic.
I retired from my high-tech career as a User Experience Researcher, and now painting is my main gig. I was more of a sporty kid than an artsy kid, and it’s only in the past 5 years that I’ve considered myself an artist. I didn’t study art in college, in fact I majored in geology, but I’ve taken painting classes from many teachers over the past 5 years. I used to work as an Outward Bound Instructor, and my love of nature and wilderness has inspired my art.
I love how painting feels meditative, but it also takes courage. What motivates me? I’d have to say curiosity. What will my painting look like? I have to paint it to find out!
