Tracy Travis
I grew up surrounded by art. My mother is an artist, my daughter is an artist, and throughout my life I have been fortunate to experience and appreciate art in many forms. I have always been a creator myself, drawn to making things with my hands and exploring different materials and mediums. While I love the process of discovery that comes with any creative practice, metal has become my favorite. I am inspired by fashion, natural and organic forms, and the intersection of art and everyday life. My work in brass and sterling silver is an exploration of shape, movement, texture, and the character of handmade objects. I allow the material to retain a sense of fluidity and the evidence of the hand, creating pieces that feel modern, organic, and quietly distinctive. For me, making is both a creative practice and a way of paying attention—to form, to materials, to beauty, and to the many ways art can become part of our everyday lives. When not making, I might be hiking with my husband and daughter or visiting my son in England.
