Hana Kim
I’m Hana Kim, a Korean Bojagi textile artist whose work explores the relationship between light, cloth, and traditional Korean hand stitching. My journey with Bojagi began through my study of Korean tea ceremony, where I became drawn to the quiet beauty of traditional Korean textiles.
I work primarily with Mosi, Korean ramie, and Oksa silk—natural, translucent fabrics that respond beautifully to light. Using traditional Korean hand-stitching techniques and machine stitching, I create Jogakbo, lanterns, tea textiles, and hanging textile works. As light passes through the cloth, colors shift, fibers emerge, and seams begin to glow, almost like stained glass.
For me, light is not simply something that illuminates my work; it becomes part of the cloth itself. I am continually fascinated by this changing relationship between light and textile—how light can transform a quiet piece of fabric and bring it to life.
This idea is at the heart of Lightdance Bojagi — Where Light Becomes Cloth.
