Mette is more than the name of my business; it is a thread connecting four generations of women in my family. In this spirit, I create work that is inspired by my Danish heritage, purposeful, honest, and made to last.
I founded Mette Ceramics in 2020, drawing on over a decade of hands-on craft alongside a background spanning contemporary art, entrepreneurship, and interior design. Working from studios in London, California, and now Colorado, my work is shaped by the landscapes I have lived in, and by the belief that the objects we bring into our homes should carry meaning. Mirroring nature, many of my pieces have multiple uses. A bowl can be a vase, a vase can be a candelabra, etc.
Every piece is made completely by hand. I develop my own clay bodies by incorporating my native Big Sur sand and create bespoke glazes for each collection. I approach the studio with intentionality: nothing wasted, nothing arbitrary. The result is work that feels considered, alive, and timeless.
