Amy Clay
My art and life is all about the Epic Quest, the longing to expand beyond limitations and explore the greater world - both real and imagined. My greatest inspiration is traveling the world as an artist and I have had the honor of being an artist in residence in over 30 countries. As a traveling artist, I’m interested in why the horizon beckons us and how each place informs and impacts the work that I do.
My paintings and etchings are like abstract maps, gestural evidence of the journey. My work is not literal or representational, but suggestive of places in the imagination. They are “lands” that do and don’t exist. I often include photo imagery or drawing into my paintings that reflect the natural environment - trees, birds, water, etc. This brings the element of realism into the mythical landscape.
