Elaine Lipson
My paintings and textile works center color, nature, place, memory, and imagination. My childhood began in the far north in Edmonton, Alberta, and took me through multiple states in the U.S; I was always trying to find an elusive sense of belonging and home. Most often, that came through feeling, seeing, experiencing, and remembering both my external and internal environments, and that still comes through in my approach to art.
Painting invites me to express joy and beauty with color and a sense of spaciousness that I don't often find through other avenues. I love to work with rich, imaginative color, yet my paintings are almost always rooted in the natural world, even if abstracted.
In addition to painting, I work with textiles and fabric, another lifetime love that was often more practical when without a painting studio. I studied painting and printmaking at Colorado College, and have certifications in museum studies and in collections management for costume and textiles.
