Karen Dombrowski-Sobel
Karen A. Dombrowski-Sobel is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the sacredness, mystery, and ephemeral beauty of the natural world. Working in painting, photography, crystal jewelry, and sound, she seeks to reveal the quiet magnificence often hidden within nature and create experiences that evoke wonder, connection, and light.
Trained as an architectural designer, Karen began her photographic journey in the darkroom and later left a career with a large architectural firm in New York City to pursue art full-time in 1990. Her work has since been exhibited and sold through galleries in New York, California, Arizona, and Colorado.
Nature remains at the heart of Karen’s work. Her environmental and photographic book, Trees Speak: Healing Ourselves and Our Planet, combines imagery and information to encourage a deeper appreciation of trees and their vital role in the health of our planet.
Her creative practice also includes handcrafted crystal healing jewelry and the playing of Tibetan singing bowls, which she uses to create moments of reflection, balance, and positive energy. These practices reflect her belief in the interconnectedness of nature, art, and our inner lives.
In 2023, Karen became a Boulder Pollinator Advocate, deepening her knowledge of native plants and pollinators and inspiring her to use her art and photography to support community awareness and environmental stewardship.
Originally from New York, Karen now lives in Boulder, Colorado, where the landscape continues to be an important source of inspiration for her work.
