The Boulder County Plein Air Festival attracts top-level plein air artists from across the U.S. to Boulder and the surrounding area, where they create paintings of Boulder County’s landscapes, cityscapes, and mountain vistas over the course of one week each summer.
The 2025 Award Winners:
- Best in Show - Jeffrey Markowsky for “Canyon Bend”
- First Place - Allen Brockbank for “Runaway Runoff”
- Second Place - Scott Willhite for “Marshall Road Barn”
- Third Place - George Sanderson for “Farmer's Market”
What is Plein Air?
The French term plein air means outdoors and refers to the practice of painting entire finished pictures outdoors.
- Best Nocturne - Scott Willhite for “Saturday Night on Walnut Street”
- Best Landscape - Kathleen Reilly for “Dodd Lake”
- Best Cityscape - Marcio Correa for “(V)alley Parking”
- Best Flatirons Image - Carol Newsom for “Flatirons in the Fog”
- Curator’s Honorable Mention – Whitman Lindstrom for “Number 3”
