Michael Deragisch
As a working artist, I began in 2016; however, I have been practicing my art since 1969. My main medium is mobiles. Inspired by Calder, and my high school art teacher, I studied and constructed simple mobiles out of posterboard and tempera paint.
I college, I was discouraged from continuing my formal art education, and was steered into communication: Radio became my first professional career.
Years later, in retirement, living alone in a home with high ceilings, I decided I would construct a mobile for my living room…After several prototypes, I had one worthy of display. Ah the muse, inspiration or just a surge of desire I began building mobiles with purpose. Today I use a variety of materials: Foam board, acrylic and wood as they all have unique properties. Now, one of my pieces hangs in the Boulder Public Library in North Boulder.
In 2023 I began building metal sculpture for yards and gardens, and I continue to build mobiles at the pace of about one per month.
