In the American West, natural beauty is easy to find every single day. Photography easily follows.
BUT as a photographer, I also want to create images that help the viewer move beyond the literal into a sense of the mythic.
The mythic? The vast expanse of western landscapes evoke all that I consider mythic, that is, our emotional and psychological reaction to these natural elements; those places that can take us out of our human-created, tick-tick-tick of everyday of life and leave us on our own to "contact" a wildness that we are certainly part of, but out of our complete control. Metaphorically, a "re-wilding" of the western landscape to many possible layers of meaning for the viewer.
