Making art gives me an alternative to our consumeristic, goal oriented, always trying to achieve society. When I paint, I’m not trying to affect social change or influence the way people think. If I’m trying too hard to make a point with my art, I lose the freedom that’s necessary in creating it. I want my art to communicate the freedom I feel in making it. Art doesn’t have a practical, functional purpose. I like that art doesn’t need to be justified, has nothing to prove; but sometimes speaks to the soul, connecting us to humanity, and making us feel alive.
