I’m drawn to plants’ organic structures, colors and patterns. While walking in nature, I’m always intrigued by the beauty that may go unnoticed within fallen leaves, dried poppy pods, thistles and branches. Some plants not only inspire imagery, but leave physical marks on the canvas. Look for the occasional appearance of poppy pod prints along the edges of the work…
For me the painting process begins intuitively, with transparent washes of color and mark making explorations. These first layers suggest the composition and mood which will develop throughout the canvas, as images are refined, colors enhanced and details imagined.
As each painting evolves, it comes into focus and tells a story.
