Tall Clay Saggar Vessel
13.5" h x 7" w x 7" deep. Saggar fired vessels use a clay container called a saggar which I make in which to fire a piece of pottery.I place a burnished and previously fired pot in the saggar, where I have alsostrategically placed various materials such as copper wire, wood shavings, copper carbonate, copper sulfate, salt, steel wool, and seaweed. I fire thiscontainer with the pot and the organic material in it .The piece that resultsis a lovely blend of deliberateness and spontaneity with a hint oflandscape. The serendipitous nature of these firings models the art we findin our natural world and dramatically demonstrates that pottery is a fire art.
