MISSION & PROGRAMS
The mission of Open Studios is to advance and enrich the visual arts and promote the role of artists in the Boulder community.
Open Studios is more than just the annual studio tour. Since 1995, the organization has grown to encompass numerous programs and projects designed to raise awareness and appreciation of art in our community. Over the last 22 years, Open Studios has become the most comprehensive visual arts organization in Boulder, Colorado.
In partnership with the Boulder Valley School District, the EdLinks program pairs local professional artists with middle and high school art classes for classroom instruction, projects, presentations, and demonstrations in specific artistic mediums that are not offered as part of the regular curriculum at no cost to the school. EdLinks funds the artists’ time spent in the classroom plus a stipend for art supplies.
The Mobile Art Lab provides youth and adults opportunities to explore their creativity, develop new skills and learn new techniques in the arts. The main philosophy of the program is a student-centered, discovery learning approach that nurtures creative self-expression and develops a lifelong love of art. It focuses on providing programming to individuals and groups in under-served communities (including those relating to income, disability or stage of life). The Mobile Art Lab is also available as a fee-based program to serve those with the resources to pay for the service in order to provide earned revenue that can be used to help fund our work in these communities.
The Open Studios Community Public Art Program pairs artists and neighborhoods to co-create a piece of art that tells the story of the neighborhood in which it was created. As this program progresses, it will create new community based public art throughout Boulder.
2017 marked the first year of the Boulder Plein Air Festival.
