I work with clay and fire. Clay is infinitely moldable in shape and texture and records the movements of my hands and tools with precision. Once a pot is dry and glazed, I can aid, but not control, the final transformation of each pot’s surface in my wood/soda-fired kiln with its swirl of flame, ash, and atmospheric compounds. Through this meld of control and chance I strive to make beautiful objects that beckon to be looked at, held, and savored.
My studio is west of Boulder, CO on 18 acres. Forestry tasks are extensive and my husband, Rob, deserves credit and gratitude for making sure a cord of wood is ready for each firing as well as for helping me with various studio construction needs.
