1.2 miles west of Broadway up Linden. Right on N. Cedarbrook. Right on Pine Needle.

My work with water-based media pays homage to the spectacular and sometimes fantastical designs of nature found all around us. I don't want to overthink being a painter. I paint for the joy of creating and to celebrate color (especially because I usually wear black!) I am most inspired by the intricate patterns, textures, forms and colors seen in the natural world - whether I am looking at animals, flowers, rocks or deserts. Often the results are representational, but lately my brush has veered toward a more abstract interpretation of what I see and feel. I am most fascinated when these more abstract expressions create a diversity of impressions among viewers. Also to that end, some of my most recent pieces are painted on multiple panels mounted on turntables, which enable the viewer to easily change the image in various ways. With rotation, one painting can be configured into another to very different effect. I love the idea of this interactive, more playful art experience.

Sometimes I paint, sometimes I just think about painting. After my studio was flooded in 2013, it took me a while to get back to this work. My world had changed. But even throughout the shell-shocked aftermath of that event I never stopped accumulating the imagery and ideas that speak to me, and my need to connect with the natural world through art. I have, though, missed the opportunity to interact with other artists and art lovers through exhibition of my work.

So, here I stand at my easel and wonder if I can I create something visually delicious today. Will my canvas somehow celebrate the form, color, texture, scale, flow of the natural world outside? Will I smile when I look at it in the morning? Will you?

I started an advertising agency with my husband in 1983. In 2000, we retired and left the dark side behind. While I have painted since childhood, I was really only able to focus on this work since leaving the other behind. Additionally, the past 19 years have been full of travel and adventure, exploring both the terrestrial and the undersea worlds. I have worked as a wildlife educator in the woods and in the aquarium. For many years, I've also worked as an organizer of charity golf tournaments and auctions, as well as a volunteer for a variety of non-profit organizations.
