The act of painting – seeing, listening and responding - is an ongoing practice in relaxing into the unknown, which can be a little unnerving.

Staying curious, and engaged in the physicality of painting, the feeling of the brush on the paper, the relationship of color and texture, are means for touching the present moment, a place of non-judgment, play and discovery.

Color and texture guide me from the beginning to the end of each painting. I start with five colors and wait for an instruction telling me what color, gesture or shapes to begin with. And the exchange continues. There may be long pauses with the painting staring back at me, patiently waiting to be seen. Always a mirror for my state of mind, painting me calls back again and again to relax, risk and delight.
