The art of seeing is, of course, evolutionary for each of us. The mind’s eye matures in many ways, seeing at first merely the surface of the world, but as we ‘ripen’ we gain dimension in perception. As a visual artist this entails selecting the meaningful from the deluge of visuals. Seeing can occur real-time with selection of the composition. It sometimes happens in processing the image post-camera and may induce composites that whisper from the muse. For me, the muse does not speak politically or even thematically. Instead, I witness. These photographs and paintings are the product of witnessing through my craft, providing vicarious views from the world of my experience. For selected photographs a new machination of process may occur wherein the image is translated from a photograph to a watercolor or oil painting. Another layer of interpretation is then invoked.
