Carol Garnand
Boulder, CO, USA
I've been a fiber artist for 20 years drawing inspiration from our Colorado environment. I start with white silk fabric, which I paint, dye and sew to create unique art: hangings, silk scarves, felted shawls and jackets.
I am a member of the Janice Ford Memorial Dye Garden at the Denver Botanical Gardens-Chatfield. We make the natural dyes I use for botanical printing, where I arrange leaves, seeds and flowers to create the designs. Fascinated with Nuno-felting, I combine silk painting and felting using Coloradan alpaca fibers to create unique shawls and jackets. I have also studied Shibori, a Japanese method of creating patterns on fiber.
I teach dyeing, silk painting, Shibori, Nuno-felting and botanical printing at the Taos Fiber Market, Estes Park Wool Market, Salida Fiber Festival and the Center for the Arts Evergreen as well as for private groups.
