I strive to create joyous pottery that successfully combines fresh modern form with bold graphics patterns. I am inspired by the richness and diversity around me - landscape, textiles, geometry, botany and the microscopic world. I make my pottery with others in mind, as I believe people are connected through the use and display of thoughtfully hand crafted objects. I intend my pieces to evoke a response by giving one a moment to pause, interact, and feel satisfied.
All pieces are made of midfire porcelain and are wheel thrown, altered and assembled. Using newsprint and vinyl stencils as as a resist, I apply black engobe to the pieces, and then remove the stencils. The stenciled black engobe and mishima ( incised and inlaid decoration) pieces are fired before being glazed with colored underglazes, bright liner glazes on interiors and a clear Satin glaze on the exterior. Function is carefully considered in all my pieces - ergometric handles, rounded rims, and smooth surfaces meant for years of domestic use and display.
