The surprise of each touch to the paper bubbles up a childlike emotion similar to hope. I revel in the process.
Rice paper’s porous texture allows the paint or ink to behave in a fluid manner that is completely organic. Using digital images of photos I’ve taken, I print them on rice paper. Then I use wax as a block and to create texture, and watercolor to enhance the objects on the print.
Wax will add texture and will also block the paint from being absorbed by the paper. Removed wax changes the paper in such a way that the texture feels almost like fabric but the paint and the ink are forever there. Creating a whimsical, batik-like, almost abstract images. Amazing!
