Juried Artist BPAF 2019
My plein air painting focuses upon the beauty of landscape, the trees, water features, grasses, and flowers as they are expressed in the changing light. Although I love to portray the landscape realistically, I also enjoy pushing colors beyond the natural. My goal is to create a pleasing composition from the elements and to convey my emotional response to the scene through color and gesture.
I began painting late in life, at age 61, when I enrolled in Molly Davis’ year long watercolor class. After that I continued taking a workshop here and there from other teachers at the Art Students League of Denver and also participated in Molly Davis’s plein air group in the summers. Over the years I have learned much from reading books and watching DVDs and videos by many well-known painters. While I still enjoy painting in watercolor, I consider oil my primary medium.
