I grew up in the Chicago area but came to Boulder for college where I was gobsmacked by the luminescence and transcendent beauty of the mountains. When I started painting with Jacque Michelle’s art group it was no surprise that landscapes were my preferred focus.
My parents met in art school in Chicago and my father became a professional portrait painter. My sister also painted and mom bathed our walls with art. As I neared retirement I decided to start taking art classes. Smart move!
I have exhibited paintings in galleries, restaurants, libraries and museums in Boulder and surrounding towns with many juried exhibits, including Boulder's Open Studios, 2018 and 2019. But most of all I am honored to be a founding member of Girl Painters West. www.girlpainterswest.
In 2017 I was nominated to be a Jury Panelist for Boulder Arts Commission as a reader for all city art grants. It was an enormous undertaking but helped me understand what artists go through to become established and how difficult it is to become financially self-sustaining, while remaining creative and productive.
In this high tech, split-second age I find myself feeling fragmented so there is nothing more fulfilling than to spend time focusing on just one thing---the canvas in front of me. Creating a painting is a lengthy, challenging process of trial, error and experimenting to find the right coloration and creative spark. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't but you are always learning and creating. When painting I am living in the moment----how often can we say that? The process calms the nerves by de-cluttering the mind and letting the heart and hand wander over the canvas to become the masters of the moment. Being a painter has been a life-affirming, satisfying, disciplining and often mystifying endeavors. Putting paint on a brush to watch it crush a canvas with intoxicating colors and beauty is one of life's most enriching moments!
