I make functional art: natural stone topped tables on recycled bases. I work with thin (about 1/2 inch thick) sandstone slabs from quarries and stone yards in Lyons. I use semi-precious stones I find at gem and mineral shows as focus stones to enhance the design. I’ve used wagon wheels, whiskey barrel hoops, and thin metal bands for the rims. I started out using hair pin legs from a local hardware store. I’ve expanded to use recycled steel bases of various sizes and shapes.
I made my first two tables from local sandstone and wagon wheels when I was a CU student in the late 60’s. I enjoyed it so much I started building tables again in 2010 when I went to a 1/2 time appointment at CU. I’ve now made over 150 tables, many of them designed in collaboration with the buyer.
I have shown my tables at Boulder open studios, local art fairs and at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.
I would enjoy making a table for you.
