I grew up drawing and painting in a small school run by the daughter of American Impressionist painter, Frederick Carl Frieseke. Later, I earned a graduate degree in Graphic Design and Photography from the American University in Washington, DC. I then worked as a graphic designer and art instructor for over a decade in the DC area before moving with my family to Boulder, Colorado. In Boulder, I took up painting enthusiastically, studying with Michael Newhall, a Buddhist monk at Naropa and other local artists. I later taught portraiture and figure drawing through Naropa's School of Extended Studies and Lifelong Learning. I paint expressively in oils, acrylics and watercolor. I draw from my feelings for the subject as well as from sketches and photos. My paintings tend to feature dynamic design and accurate draftsmanship, while also supporting a gestural feeling. I want my artwork to reflect the life and culture of the contemporary American West.
