These paintings are inspired by a journey I took on the Camino de Santiago or “Way of Saint James” in Northern Spain. For those who are unfamiliar with the Camino, it is comprised of a series of pilgrimage routes established in the Middle Ages. Along with a good friend, I began the Camino Frances in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in the French Pyrenees and ended about six weeks later on the coast of Muxia, Spain – about 560 miles down the road.

I have been painting images from the Camino over the last two years as a tribute to this profound learning experience. As with the pilgrimage, painting is an opportunity for reflection and inspiration. I enjoy planning and composing a painting to capture the essence of each scene wherever that may be. Travel to wonderful places throughout the world provides rich references from which to paint on the road and back home in my studio.
