I am inspired by place. My painting is a creative response to my surroundings, whether close to home or on diverse travel experiences. An architectural background gives me an eye for cityscapes and interesting building forms. Traveling for more than a year through Europe as an architecture student, watercolors in my backpack, was where it began. In Boulder, I find inspiration on a downtown street or in the mountain scenery of a hike, even right outside my door as a mountain lion glides in undulating movement through the snow. An adorned Maasai warrior, standing proudly and fearlessly, spear in hand, on the plains of east Africa, sparked a colorful painting in tribute. Walking for weeks through ancient Prague was a moving experience, inspiring a series of plein air paintings that became a book of 100 watercolor cityscapes.

Painting commissions for Historic Denver, Historic Boulder, Central City Opera, the Brown Palace, Denver Symphony, Bolder Boulder 10K and so many others have given me the opportunity to commemorate the architecture, neighborhoods and cultural legacy that we all treasure.

My Architecture degree is from Auburn University and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The new net-zero energy home and studio that I recently designed and built combines the art experience with spectacular views of Boulder and the Continental Divide. The studio is shared with Jonathan Froula Adams, whose intriguing abstract art is a mathematical wonder and a blaze of joyous color.
