Lorena Fox is a contemporary artist living and working in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado. She translates her trained knowledge of color and composition to acrylic painting and loves when a piece comes together in unexpected ways. Her colorful artworks are inspired by the beauty found in nature and the spirited animals that live among us.

Lorena’s process usually involves quick, intuitive strokes. The sessions can be intense and focused, full of raw energy and movement around the studio. She delights in getting a piece to a visual stopping point quickly, similar to wanting to know how a really good book will unfold. She frequently uses a palette knife with a lot of paint, as well as large brush strokes to create texture, movement, and depth.

Lorena enjoys outdoor adventures, including mountain biking, hiking, running, and camping. This is an important part of her life and she strives to translate the joy of being outside into her artwork. As she explains, “This world is full of color and life. My goal is not to replicate the world exactly, but rather abstract and stretch preconceived notions of reality.” Her paintings are known for their energetic, vibrant, and dynamic style, often walking the line between abstract and impressionistic.

In addition to painting, Lorena has been a graphic designer, multimedia designer, and art director for 20 years, accumulating numerous design awards in that time. She currently owns and is creative director of Matika Studios, and also mentors other designers. Lorena studied Art & Design from the University of MT before graduating with a degree in Graphic Design from NC State University’s College of Design. She has also studied fine art in Spain, Colorado, North Carolina, and Minnesota.
