Found materials and objects inspire me. I love creating art by repurposing discarded things. Upcycling allows me create an art object of greater meaning. I take my sensory appreciation from these materials and re-craft them to create a new form and tell a new story, full of fact and fiction. It’s fun to challenge preconceived notions, and I like when the viewers eye recognizes a found object and sees it in a new way.

Many of my pieces include bicycle parts and craft beer words and images upcycled from post-consumer packaging. I am inspired by these colors and graphics. By dissecting, separating, and rearranging the colors and images from their original function, my pieces communicate a whole new message. I like a fresh and innovative feel and to push boundaries to be bold, vibrant, and funky.

Karen has a B.A. with an emphasis in Sculpture from the California State University, Fullerton, and an M.B.A from the University of Colorado, Denver.
