Artists, watch out for scams!
An Open Studios artist passed along the following: "I received an email inquiry about some of my artwork that appears on my website. After I told her the prices, this person (Geogia Nuthall - hullsupplies21@yahoo.com), wrote back and said she wanted 24 of my bronzes! That would have been more than $50,000, which I wrote back and made sure that she understood that. Her response then was that she wanted two bronzes, which would cost $4,400. She was going to pay with a credit card, including the shipping costs to Korea.  The scam is I would have to wire money to a shipper (xshipping and logistics.com) to get the work to Korea. Margaret in the security department of Termnet told me this morning, that she had heard of this "company" before associated with scams or attempted scams against artists. After the artist wires off the money to the "shipper," its gone, there is no way to trace it. They don't come to pick up the work. She said the only secure way to do business overseas with someone you trust (?), is to have the funds wired into an account that is not used very often, because once you divulge you account and routing numbers, they can debit money out of that account."
